BBQ Ribs found in Japan!

If you're looking for barbecued ribs in Tokyo, there are only 2 places; TGI Fridays and Hatos Bar in Nakameguro. There are about 3 billion other options for food in this city but I don't think the american style of barbecue has caught on here. There are, however, many "grilling" options called teppanyaki, yakitori and yakiniku etc etc. Yakitori are skewers with various meat/skin/vegetable products placed on it and the other two names are probably the same thing. I would look it up but it really doesn't make a difference to the non-japanese. Either way, you're given a plate of thinly cut seasoned raw meats and/or seafood to cook yourself at your table. Personally, I love the stuff but its just not the same as slow-cooked, savory, falling off the bone bbq ribs. In case you don't know what I'm talking about:

Barbecue or barbeque ... is a method and apparatus for cooking meat with the heat and hot smoke of a fire, smoking wood, or hot coals of charcoal, cooking gas or even electricity; and may include application of a marinadespice rub or basting sauce to the meat or vegetables.
The term as a noun can refer to the meat, the cooking apparatus itself (the "Barbecue grill") or to a party that includes such food. The term as an adjective can refer to foods cooked by this method. The term is also used as a verb for the act of cooking food in this manner.
Barbecue is usually done in an outdoor environment by cooking and smoking the meat over wood or charcoal. Restaurant barbecue may be cooked in large brick or metalovens specially designed for that purpose. - wikipedia

Anyway, the best thing on the menu was actually the pulled pork sandwiches with cheese. They were amazing! I highly recommend them. The ribs were good but the three sauces they offer at the table helped give it that extra kick that they needed. But see for yourself: http://hatosbar.com/
